Special Inspection of Spray Applied Fireproofing

West Coast Coating Consultants has extensive experience in the fireproofing industry with several important projects to note. These projects include the USCG Cutter Fleet stationed at Coast Guard Island in Alameda California USCGC Stratton, USCGC Waesche and the USCGC Bertholf. Additional Naval Vessels include the USS Nimitz CVN68, USS Carl Vinson CVN70 and the USS Enterprise CVN65. Multiple ongoing fireproofing projects include Columns, Vessels, Pipes, Exchangers and Tanks at the Chevron Richmond Refinery. Commercial building spray applied fireproofing projects include the Hunters View Apartment Complex in San Francisco and the Pereira O’Dell Building at 1265 Battery Street in San Francisco.

West Coast Coating Consultants employs Special Inspectors certified by ICC in accordance with IBC Chapter 17 Section 1705.14 and 1705.15. Employed Special Inspectors are certified in both Spray Applied Intumescent Fireproofing and Cementitious Fireproofing.

Special Inspectors’ tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Initial condition of substrates
  • Visual inspection of application quality
  • Visual inspection for defects/damage
  • Ambient condition monitoring
  • Thickness testing to strict allowable ranges in accordance with both ICC and NACE PA-2 Standards
  • Density measurements of fireproofing, including destructive testing
  • Bond strength testing, both adhesive and cohesive
